The Côte d’Ivoire has taken a bold step on the global stage by actively participating in the second session of the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) at the United Nations headquarters in New York. Through this strategic engagement, the country is reaffirming its commitment to a migration governance model built on cooperation, human dignity, and sustainable development.
The forum, dedicated to reviewing the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration—adopted in 2018 in Marrakech—brings together nations to address the complexities of human mobility worldwide.
Representing the Minister of Planning and Development, Dr. Souleymane Diarrassouba, Dr. Hinin Moustapha, Director-General of the National Population Office (ONP), championed Côte d’Ivoire’s stance during high-level discussions on shared experiences and commitments by signatory states.
Advancing migration governance through data and inclusion
In his address, Dr. Moustapha highlighted Côte d’Ivoire’s notable progress across key sectors tied to migration management. This includes strengthening migration data systems, reducing vulnerabilities, combating discrimination, and fostering international cooperation.
A major focus was placed on data-driven decision-making. Côte d’Ivoire has undertaken structural reforms to modernize its migration data collection and analysis processes, ensuring reliable, up-to-date, and disaggregated information to guide effective public policy. A landmark achievement in this effort was the 2025 national migration survey, positioning the country as a leader in evidence-based migration governance in Africa.
Protecting migrants and building inclusive societies
Beyond statistics, Côte d’Ivoire is prioritizing the protection of migrants through comprehensive support and reintegration programs. These initiatives, backed by inclusive social policies, aim to provide dignified care for migrants while minimizing vulnerabilities.
The fight against discrimination remains central to the country’s strategy. Authorities have intensified awareness campaigns and reinforced institutional frameworks to foster a more inclusive society rooted in human rights.
Fostering global solidarity in migration
The Ivorian delegation also championed the need for international cooperation grounded in solidarity and shared responsibility. Côte d’Ivoire advocates for a unified approach among countries of origin, transit, and destination to effectively address migration challenges.
