Deadly jihadist attack claims 16 lives in Niger’s Banibangou

Sixteen civilians lost their lives in a brutal armed assault on Friday within the Banibangou district of western Niger. The tragic incident occurred in an area that had experienced relative calm for several months, marking a sudden escalation in violence.

The Banibangou region, situated in the Tillabéri administrative zone, lies adjacent to the Mali border—a hotspot for militant activities. Terrorist factions, including the Islamic State in the Sahel and the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (affiliated with Al-Qaeda’s regional operations), have been active in this volatile cross-border zone.
