Prominent journalist Aïssatou Diop Fall is currently facing scrutiny following contentious statements she made concerning Ousmane Sonko, which included a call for his abduction. Despite issuing public apologies, she has been summoned to appear before investigators at the Special Cybersecurity Division to address her remarks.
The summons for Aïssatou Diop Fall to the National Police’s Special Cybersecurity Division (DSC) comes after the Public Prosecutor at the High Court of Dakar initiated proceedings on their own accord.
The head of the Public SN network is scheduled to meet with investigators this Monday. She will be questioned regarding comments that ignited widespread controversy across social media platforms and within public discourse.
Aïssatou Diop Fall’s contentious statements
This inquiry stems from a media appearance where the journalist expressed a desire for Ousmane Sonko, the leader of PASTEF, to be abducted by terrorists. These specific remarks quickly triggered a torrent of reactions and widespread condemnation.
In response to the public outcry, Aïssatou Diop Fall subsequently released a video, offering her apologies and conveying remorse for her initial statements.
Despite her public apologies, Public Prosecutor Ibrahima Ndoye has directed the head of the Special Cybersecurity Division to proceed with her summons to ensure she is questioned about the incident.
