Mali sentences french diplomat to 20 years for undermining state security

A French national, apprehended in August 2025 by the ruling military junta and accused of conspiring against state institutions, has received a conviction from the criminal chamber of the specialized counter-terrorism court.

Malian judicial authorities have imposed a 20-year prison sentence on a French intelligence operative, who held diplomatic status and had been in custody for nearly ten months within the capital city of Bamako. The conviction stems from charges of “undermining state security” in the Sahelian nation, currently governed by a junta.
