Morocco’s parliament boosts diplomatic influence through strategic alliances
Rachid Talbi Alami meets Royal College of Defence Studies delegates in Rabat on May 13, 2026
The 11th legislative term of Morocco’s Chamber of Representatives has underscored the pivotal role of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing the Kingdom’s global standing. This was highlighted by Speaker Rachid Talbi Alami during the closing of the second session of the 2025-2026 legislative year.
Strengthening Morocco’s international stance through parliamentary diplomacy
According to Talbi Alami, the Chamber’s foreign policy approach is built on a robust political and diplomatic framework, particularly concerning the Sahara issue. He emphasized that this remains Morocco’s top priority in international relations, shaping its engagements with global partners.
The Speaker pointed to the July 31, 2025 adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 as a landmark moment. He described it as a decisive turning point that reinforced Morocco’s position by acknowledging the historical realities of the Sahara region and bolstering international support for the Kingdom’s historical rights over its southern provinces.
Parliamentary initiatives align with royal vision
Talbi Alami outlined how the Chamber has actively supported key royal initiatives on both international and African fronts. Among these were proposals targeting Atlantic-facing African states and efforts to enhance access to the Atlantic Ocean for landlocked African nations.
He also highlighted Morocco’s commitment to peace, coexistence, and environmental protection, citing the Kingdom’s hosting of numerous international congresses and forums. These gatherings have led to the adoption of 11 international parliamentary reference documents, including global declarations, during the current legislative term.
Building lasting partnerships through cooperation
The Speaker stressed the importance of leveraging these achievements to solidify Morocco’s presence in multilateral parliamentary organizations. He advocated for expanding bilateral cooperation through new agreements and forums designed to foster sustainable partnerships and mutual trust.
International cooperation programs, he noted, have been instrumental in creating dialogue platforms, exchanging best practices with leading parliaments, and sharing expertise. These initiatives have also played a key role in promoting Morocco’s democratic model globally.
Setting global standards in parliamentary practice
Talbi Alami proudly noted that the Chamber of Representatives stands among the few parliaments worldwide to have developed and published practical guides and reference documents on parliamentary action through comparative studies.
