Ohada conference and advocacy competition in Niamey may 2026

Niamey to host OHADA academic conference and advocacy competition in may 2026

The University Club OHADA UAM in Niamey is set to organize a prestigious academic event on May 22-23, 2026, featuring both a formal opening ceremony and the 8th edition of the “Ace of OHADA Advocacy” competition.

The two-day gathering will bring together law students, legal professionals, and academic experts to examine the evolution and future prospects of OHADA law through engaging debates and intellectual exchanges.

Conference theme and key discussions

The opening ceremony will center on the theme “OHADA Law: Past, Present, and Future!”, providing a comprehensive overview of the Uniform Act for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa (OHADA).

Advocacy competition topics

The competition will challenge participants with two compelling legal questions:

  • Eliminatory phase: “Should OHADA business law be redefined?”
  • Final round: “Is OHADA Law business law or economic activity law?”

These topics reflect current debates on expanding OHADA’s scope and aligning its provisions with Africa’s dynamic economic landscape.

Prizes and recognition

Winners of the advocacy competition will receive valuable career-boosting awards, including:

  • A professional internship opportunity
  • A brand-new laptop computer
  • A prestigious trophy

Supporting institutions

The event enjoys strong backing from key organizations, notably:

  • The National OHADA Commission (Niger)
  • UNIDA (www.ohada.com)
  • Academic and institutional partners

This initiative aligns with Niger’s commitment to promoting legal integration in Africa and enhancing understanding of OHADA law among students, practitioners, and researchers.
