Former Inter Miami midfielder Benjamin Cremaschi has officially completed his permanent move to Parma, with the Serie A club activating its purchase option for just under $5 million. The American talent featured in nine matches for the Italian side before a meniscus injury in March prematurely ended his season. This definitive departure provides Inter Miami, known as the Herons, with valuable salary flexibility.
A cost-effective acquisition for Parma
Following extensive speculation, Cremaschi is now set to establish himself permanently in Italy. Parma exercised the €4 million clause to extend his loan agreement, which was originally slated to run until September 2025. The young American, a product of the Inter Miami academy, earned the title of Young American Player of the Year last season and boasts three international caps for his national team.
A challenging start in Parma
Despite his arrival from the Herons, Cremaschi found limited opportunities to showcase his abilities in a Parma shirt. Joining the club shortly after the acquisition of Argentine international Rodrigo De Paul, the American midfielder struggled to regain his optimal physical condition and form. While he made his debut in October, his appearances remained sporadic before a knee injury in March brought his season to an early close.
Forced exit from Miami
Cremaschi, a central midfielder by trade, seemed unlikely to reintegrate into the Herons’ squad after expressing dissatisfaction with coach Javier Mascherano’s tactical decisions. Utilized in various positions, his playing time diminished, fueling his discontent.
“I am frustrated, I want to play,” Cremaschi stated last August. “The most important thing for me is to perform at a very high level, and to achieve that, I need playing time and experience. I have played very little in recent games, and I do not believe it is due to my performance level.”
Shortly thereafter, the Miami club arranged his loan to provide him with the necessary playing opportunities.
Inter Miami’s increased roster flexibility
Cremaschi’s permanent exit is expected to significantly benefit the Herons in their transfer aspirations. The club is reportedly interested in former Manchester United midfielder Casemiro, who is currently a free agent. With one less midfielder on the roster and an additional squad spot, the Herons appear poised to welcome another prestigious recruit.
