President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has appointed economist Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as Senegal’s new prime minister, as announced in a televised decree on Monday, May 25. Lô, a former senior official at the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), previously served as Secretary-General in the president’s first cabinet before taking on a ministerial role.

The appointment follows the dismissal of former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, which occurred amid sustained political tensions between the two leaders over recent months.
