Tchad mining sector boosts transparency with SONEMIC innovations

The Minister of Mines, Fatimé Haram Acyl, recently commended the SONEMIC (Chad’s national mining and marketing company) for its groundbreaking local innovations, which are setting new standards in the country’s mining sector.

Local innovation as a national pride

Speaking after SONEMIC’s annual performance review, Minister Acyl highlighted the development of a homegrown software system that tracks mining permits and integrates with customs and tax authorities. Already managing 147 active permits, this tool enhances sector transparency and reliability—a milestone she described as unexpected yet transformative.

Strategic vision for future growth

The minister emphasized SONEMIC’s forward-thinking approach, which includes geological mapping to accurately assess mineral deposits and prevent conflicts over resources. Additionally, ongoing discussions with international partners—such as the United Arab Emirates for water transformation projects and potential antimony refinery collaborations—signal a shift toward sustainable economic diversification.

Unified leadership for sector transformation

Minister Acyl underscored the importance of cohesive communication and alignment with national policies to position mining and oil as engines of job creation and long-term development. “We must act as one, following the Head of State’s vision to unlock the sector’s full potential,” she stated.

A pivotal moment for Chad’s mining future

This annual review marks a turning point for SONEMIC, whose mix of local innovation, resource mapping, and global partnerships paves the way for a more robust and transparent mining industry. “This is a collective effort, and Chad will emerge stronger,” she concluded, urging stakeholders to embrace their roles in this momentum.
