Togolese Council President Faure Gnassingbé is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Kampala, Uganda, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. This diplomatic journey comes at the invitation of Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and aims to significantly enhance the cooperative relations between Togo and Uganda.
During his stay, the Togolese leader is set to engage in a private, one-on-one discussion with his Ugandan counterpart. These high-level talks are expected to focus on critical issues such as fostering regional peace, ensuring security across the continent, and advancing African integration, particularly in light of persistent tensions within the Great Lakes region.
Furthermore, President Gnassingbé will attend the official swearing-in ceremony for Yoweri Museveni, who was re-elected following the general election held on January 15. This momentous occasion, slated to take place in the Ugandan capital, anticipates the presence of numerous African heads of state, government officials, and representatives from various international organizations.
According to the Togolese presidency, this visit underscores both nations’ dedication to solidifying their political and diplomatic cooperation. Lomé and Kampala already maintain regular consultations on several pressing African security matters, notably addressing the long-standing armed violence and humanitarian crisis in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Through this important diplomatic engagement, Togo emphatically reaffirms its steadfast commitment to promoting dialogue, ensuring regional stability, and strengthening collaboration among African states.
