More than 300 individuals have tragically lost their lives at the hands of ADF rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo since the beginning of the year. These grim statistics primarily stem from the provinces of Ituri and Nord-Kivu, highlighting a continuing pattern of violence. A recent attack, carried out during the night of May 30 to 31 in Ngadi, a village situated near Beni in Nord-Kivu, stands as a stark reminder of the persistent threat.
The Ngadi assault resulted in the deaths of 15 civilians and a soldier, underscoring the severe human cost of the ongoing conflict.
In the Beni region, ADF rebels have intensified their onslaught, causing over 40 civilian fatalities within a mere three-day span through a series of brutal attacks.
Operating in eastern DRC since the mid-1990s, the ADF rebels have been responsible for the deaths of thousands of civilians over the decades. In 2019, the group formally pledged allegiance to the Islamic State terrorist organization, which now identifies them as its “Central Africa Province” and has claimed responsibility for several of their violent acts.
