Mali offers substantial rewards for information on militant leaders

The Malian government has declared its intention to provide significant financial incentives to anyone offering actionable intelligence that leads to the whereabouts of individuals suspected of orchestrating terrorist attacks against civilians and vital national installations.

Authorities have specified a staggering two billion CFA francs (approximately 3.55 million US dollars) as the reward for information pinpointing the elusive leader of the «Nasra al-Islam wal-Muslimin» group, Iyad Ag Gali. Lesser, but still substantial, sums have been designated for other high-profile targets on the government’s wanted list.

Among those sought is El Ghabas Ag Antala, identified as a prominent figure within the Tuareg separatist movements operating in Mali’s northern regions.

This decisive action comes in the wake of a series of brutal assaults in April, attributed to groups allied with Al-Qaïda. These attacks, according to official reports, tragically resulted in the death of the nation’s defense minister and left several other high-ranking officials injured. The violence ignited widespread clashes across the vast, arid expanse of the country’s north, fueling concerns that armed factions could further consolidate their territorial control.

The decree, formalizing these reward offers, was issued from Bamako, bearing the signature of Major General Daoud Ali Mohamedine, Mali’s Minister of Security and Civil Protection.
