Algerian Prime Minister’s official visit to Niamey: a step toward deeper energy collaboration
The Algerian Prime Minister, Sifi Ghrieb, arrived in Niamey this Wednesday for an official visit aimed at deepening cooperation between Algeria and Niger. Ordered by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the mission underscores both nations’ commitment to expanding their strategic partnership across key sectors.
The high-level Algerian delegation includes the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies and the Director-General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation, highlighting the importance placed on energy collaboration.
Initial talks between the Algerian and Nigerien Prime Ministers centered on assessing bilateral relations and identifying new opportunities for cooperation. The discussions focused on accelerating joint development projects and strengthening existing initiatives between Algiers and Niamey.
A milestone in energy cooperation: powering Niamey
One of the most significant outcomes of the visit is the inauguration of a 40-megawatt power plant in Gorou Banda, Niamey. Funded entirely by Algeria, this facility is a strategic contribution to Niger’s energy infrastructure, designed to enhance electricity production and stabilize supply in the capital.
Beyond its immediate benefits, the project reflects Algeria’s broader commitment to fostering regional stability and development in the Sahelo-Saharan zone. By improving energy access, the plant supports Niger’s economic growth and social welfare.
Future-focused discussions on regional and bilateral agendas
The Prime Minister’s agenda also includes a meeting with the President of Niger to explore future cooperation frameworks and address shared regional and international concerns. These talks aim to solidify a long-term vision for partnership, ensuring mutual benefits for both countries.
This official visit follows a period of intensified political and economic exchanges between Algeria and Niger, two nations actively working to reinforce their alliance for the prosperity of their populations.
