On Wednesday, May 14, 2026, the National Superior Police School in Porto-Novo hosted the official inauguration of critical preparatory training programs. These courses are designed to lead to the esteemed Higher Security Studies Certificate (Bess), the Security Forces Staff Diploma (Demes), and the Special Security Forces Staff Diploma.
This significant academic event represents a crucial stride in bolstering the capabilities of Bénin’s internal security forces. Presided over by Inspector General of Police, 2nd Class Kokou Brice Allowanou, the Director General of the Republican Police, the ceremony drew a distinguished assembly. Attendees included high-ranking military and political-administrative officials, senior Republican Police executives, and prominent academics.
Divisional Police Commissioner Gilles Yekpe, who leads the National Superior Police School, outlined the ambitious goals of these programs. He emphasized their role in equipping trainees for senior security roles, highlighting the imperative for participants to cultivate a forward-looking perspective on national, sub-regional, and international security challenges.
« For this current session, the National Superior Police School has brought together highly qualified instructors, experienced national and international speakers, and a dedicated educational support system committed to your success. The curriculum will specifically cover critical areas such as police strategy, human and operational resource management, command principles, as well as internal and cross-border security issues », he stated.
Inspector General of Police Kokou Brice Allowanou underscored the rigorous demands of these ongoing training initiatives and the high expectations placed upon these future senior security force leaders. « These programs offer an invaluable opportunity to enhance your professional competencies, foster your leadership acumen, and prepare you for the elevated responsibilities that await you », he asserted. The proceedings concluded with an insightful inaugural lecture delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at the University of Parakou. The lecture explored the pertinent theme: « Rule of Law, Republican Police, and Security Challenges ».
