Bénin’s government establishes new monthly meeting schedule for council of ministers

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, the inaugural Council of Ministers for the 2026-2033 seven-year term convened under the leadership of Head of State, Romuald Wadagni. This significant session established the core strategic directions guiding government initiatives for the upcoming seven years.

During this pivotal gathering, President Wadagni reminded his cabinet members of their fundamental obligation: to serve the public interest with unwavering rigor, responsibility, and exemplary conduct. The President’s directives underscored that governmental operations must be anchored in principles of sobriety, integrity, solidarity, and accountability, all aimed at bolstering trust between the state and its populace.

Key priorities for this seven-year mandate include robust efforts to combat extreme poverty, diminish social and regional disparities, and fortify national security. The administration is committed to fostering more balanced development by ensuring a more equitable distribution of public investments across all regions of the country.

Furthermore, this initial Council of Ministers session formalized a revised operational framework for the Executive branch. This new structure is designed to enhance the coordination of public action and expedite decision-making processes.

Under the new directives, the Council of Ministers will now convene for its ordinary session on the first Wednesday of each month. Concurrently, the Inter-ministerial Committee is scheduled for two monthly sessions, taking place on the first and third Mondays. Cabinet Councils, on the other hand, will be convened as dictated by the specific requirements of individual ministerial departments.

With this inaugural Council session, the Bénin government for the 2026-2033 septennat officially transitions into its operational phase. Its comprehensive roadmap emphasizes institutional discipline, enhanced performance, and a dedicated response to the social expectations of the Béninese people.
