Britain and Morocco forge deeper strategic ties to double bilateral trade

A high-level visit to Rabat by Chris Bryant, the British Minister of State for International Trade, has solidified a significant upgrade in relations between the United Kingdom and the Kingdom of Morocco. This engagement marks a move toward a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

London now views Morocco as a land of immense economic potential. During his stay in Rabat, Bryant revealed an ambitious target to double the current volume of bilateral trade over the next five to seven years.

Following a series of discussions with Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Bryant noted that trade between the two countries currently sits at approximately £4.5 billion. He emphasized his commitment to scaling this figure significantly within the coming decade.

The British Minister of State also highlighted the United Kingdom’s eagerness to collaborate with Morocco as a strategic ally to ensure the success of major upcoming international events, most notably the 2030 World Cup. To support this goal, Bryant was accompanied by a delegation of fifty British firms specializing in the planning and execution of global sporting events. His visit coincided with the Morocco-UK Business Forum, held on June 2 and 3, 2026.

In addition to trade talks, Morocco and the United Kingdom are set to convene the fourth session of the Morocco-UK Association Council to further institutionalize their growing cooperation.
