During the opening of the Senate’s second ordinary session this Tuesday in Yaoundé, the President of the upper house, Aboubakary Abdoulaye, called upon the government to intensify its efforts against sexual violence and femicides, which he noted are becoming increasingly alarming.
At the Senate’s second ordinary session, held this Tuesday in Yaoundé, the President of the upper house, Aboubakary Abdoulaye, called on the Cameroun government to strengthen its fight against sexual violence targeting children and femicides, which he considers increasingly alarming.
Aboubakary Abdoulaye, serving as both President of the Senate and Lamido of Rey Bouba, issued a solemn plea to the government for more decisive action against sexual violence affecting children and the rising number of femicides across Cameroun.
Speaking at the Senate’s plenary session in Yaoundé, with Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, the President of the National Assembly, and several government members in attendance, he condemned these heinous acts that severely violate the dignity, integrity, and lives of victims.
“Sexual abuse against women and children, along with acts of femicide, demand determined opposition,” he asserted, urging authorities to bring these violent crimes to an end.
This strong declaration follows a period of intense national emotion, sparked by the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl in Yaoundé. The incident ignited public protests and widespread outrage, reigniting vital discussions on child protection and the urgent need for enhanced prevention and repression measures against gender-based violence in Cameroun.
