Alfred Ikaka Bobe, Director General of Gabon Poste, announced on Tuesday the launch of a new digital application designed to assist account holders whose savings have been frozen. This innovative platform allows individuals to easily verify their names against the lists compiled by the liquidator, all without needing to visit a physical office.
Savers can access this verification service from any computer or smartphone by connecting to the designated online platform.
Since its launch last Monday, the platform experienced high demand, recording approximately 10,000 visits within just a few hours, leading to temporary saturation.
“The application has since been updated and will be fully operational starting this Wednesday,” confirmed Alfred Ikaka Bobe.
Account holders are prompted to confirm their current living status and can also specify their preferred location for receiving future payments. The application extends its reach to include savers residing outside of Gabon.
Only those savers officially registered by the liquidator who have unfortunately lost their passbook are required to visit a post office to obtain a replacement document.
This initiative follows the 2017 bankruptcy of PostBank SA, a subsidiary of Gabon Poste, which severely impacted the savings of countless individuals. After numerous unfulfilled pledges by the previous administration under Ali Bongo Ondimba, the current transitional government reiterated its commitment in February 2025 to resolve this outstanding debt.
An estimated 60,000 savers are affected by the situation. A substantial fund of 31.212 billion CFA francs has been earmarked to settle the debt over a three-year period, with disbursements occurring in equal annual installments.
