Chad authorities halt distribution of non-compliant yogurt brands

Chad’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued an urgent directive to halt the distribution of four yogurt brands following inspections that uncovered serious health violations.

In an official statement, Minister Dr. Guibolo Fanga Mathieu announced the immediate withdrawal of all products from Tami Yaourt, Alkhiza Yaourt, Lazza Yaourt, and Yaourt Gamar. The decision follows rigorous quality checks conducted by the Food Quality Control Center (CECOQDA) between June 1 and 5 across N’Djamena’s dairy production facilities.

Critical hygiene and safety failures uncovered

The inspections revealed alarming deficiencies in microbiological and physicochemical quality, as well as violations of hygiene, storage, and food safety protocols. These lapses pose significant health risks to consumers, prompting the ministry to act decisively.

The minister emphasized that all affected yogurt batches must be removed from shelves immediately. Distribution remains suspended until the companies fully comply with regulatory standards set by CECOQDA.

Stricter nationwide food safety measures ahead

In response, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has pledged to expand these inspections to all food production and distribution units nationwide. Authorities are urging the public to remain cautious and report any suspicious products.

Companies cited in the directive have been instructed to implement corrective measures to align their operations with national food safety regulations.
