Chad bans military-style attire for forestry agents

The Ministry of Environment, Fisheries, and Sustainable Development has issued a strict directive prohibiting forestry agents from wearing military-style uniforms, insignia, ranks, or any other armed forces-related attributes.

Signed by Secretary-General Koularambaye Koundja Julien, the circular addresses concerns over certain agents—both military personnel on reassignment and civilian staff—adopting gear exclusively associated with Chad’s National Army (ANT). Effective immediately, the ban applies across all central and regional forestry services.

Officials at all levels are tasked with enforcing the measure, with violators facing disciplinary action. The move aims to clarify the non-combatant role of forestry personnel while reinforcing professional boundaries within environmental protection agencies.
