Dakar’s third civil chamber has once again delayed the high-stakes civil proceedings between former Tourism Minister Mame Mbaye Niang and current Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, this time pushing the hearing to 22 July 2026.
The dispute centers on the ownership of a 264 m² villa located in the Cité Keur Gorgui, originally registered under lot number R/17. Mame Mbaye Niang initiated legal action to reverse what he alleges was a fraudulent transfer of the property to Ousmane Sonko’s family, effectively blocking any potential seizure of the asset.
The plaintiff is seeking the reinstatement of the property deed in his name, a critical step toward recovering the 200 million CFA francs in damages awarded to him by the Supreme Court in a separate criminal case. His legal team argues that the alleged transfer was a deliberate strategy to create legal insolvency and shield the villa from enforcement actions.
A previous hearing had already been adjourned, and the upcoming session will now allow the civil court to rule on the merits of the case. The judge will review the plaintiff’s rebuttals to the defense’s written submissions before delivering a final decision.
