Digital education in Côte d’Ivoire: 75 inspectors trained in new technologies

Advancing the digital shift in the Ivorian school system

As part of the second stage of the Digital Skills Development for Supervisory and Teaching Personnel (DCNPEE) initiative, dozens of educational experts have gathered to enhance their technological proficiency. Specifically, 75 pedagogical inspectors representing 25 regional offices (DRENAET) across Côte d’Ivoire participated in a specialized workshop held in Yamoussoukro in early May 2026.

This training session was co-organized by UNESCO and the Ministry of National Education and Literacy (MENAET), specifically through the Directorate of Technologies and Information Systems (DTSI). The primary goal was to bolster the digital capabilities of key figures within the educational framework, ensuring they are equipped for modern challenges in West Africa.

This effort follows a successful first phase that trained 43 inspectors, highlighting a commitment to achieving comprehensive national coverage. Such initiatives are vital for the execution of the National Strategy for the Digitalization of Education (SNDECI 2024-2028), which aims to modernize learning environments in Côte d’Ivoire.

Over the course of three days, inspectors specializing in Mathematics, Life and Earth Sciences (SVT), and Physics-Chemistry explored various digital tools. The curriculum focused on boosting pedagogical efficiency through the creation of digital content, interactive presentation techniques, and the strategic use of artificial intelligence in professional settings. The ultimate objective is to foster a more engaging and high-quality learning experience for students.

Participants expressed strong satisfaction with the modules, noting their relevance to the current needs of the school system. UNESCO and the DTSI emphasized that these inspectors are now expected to serve as vital ambassadors, cascading their new digital knowledge to teachers across their respective regions.

Supported by funding from the GIZ, this milestone in the DCNPEE 2 project paves the way for upcoming activities, including specialized training for IT managers. These collective efforts are designed to build an educational system in Côte d’Ivoire that is inclusive, high-performing, and fully adapted to the digital age.
