France and Morocco strengthen ties at Rabat celebration

On the evening of July 14, 2026, the French embassy in Morocco hosted a vibrant gathering at the Residence of France in Rabat, marking the celebration of French National Day. Over 1,500 guests attended the event, which was graced by the presence of high-ranking officials, including Moroccan ministers and foreign diplomats.

The evening’s highlight was the speech delivered by Philippe Lalliot, France’s ambassador to Morocco, alongside his wife, Laurence Folliot Lalliot. Addressing the crowd, Ambassador Lalliot emphasized the strength and resilience of the France-Morocco relationship, describing it as a balanced, forward-looking partnership designed to address both current and future challenges.

“This is a partnership built on mutual respect, modernized to serve our shared interests, and driven by a vision of progress,” he stated. “It is a relationship we must nurture, strengthen, and evolve to meet the demands of tomorrow.”

In his remarks, Ambassador Lalliot also underscored the human dimension of the bilateral relationship, calling it a legacy passed down through generations. “This friendship is our shared inheritance,” he said. “It is our duty to preserve it, deepen it, and ensure it flourishes for years to come.”

Reflecting on his time in Morocco, he praised the country’s proactive approach to development, noting initiatives in cities like Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakech, and Laâyoune, where he recently inaugurated the first Alliance Française in the city.

The event was attended by Mohamed Saad Berrada, Morocco’s Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, who represented the government. The gathering also brought together Moroccan officials and accredited foreign diplomats, reflecting the significance of the occasion.
