Gabon and Guinea strengthen diplomatic ties with new ambassador’s mission

A fresh chapter in diplomatic relations has opened between Gabon and Guinea. On Wednesday in Conakry, Persis Lionel Essono Ondo, Gabon’s newly appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary, took a pivotal step in his role. During an official meeting, he formally presented his credentials to Morissanda Kouyaté, Guinea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, and Guineans Abroad.

This essential protocol ceremony marks the beginning of the ambassador’s duties and paves the way for his first official engagements. It also sets the stage for the upcoming solemn presentation of his letters of credence to Guinea’s Head of State.

Building on shared strategic priorities

Beyond formalities, the meeting underscored the depth of the bilateral relationship, rooted in a shared history of solidarity and friendship. The ambassador conveyed warm wishes from Gabon’s President, as well as encouraging messages from the country’s Foreign Minister, Marie-Edithe Tassyla Ye-Doumbeneny.

« I am fully committed to working closely with your ministry to strengthen the bonds of friendship, cooperation, and fraternity that unite Gabon and Guinea », Persis Lionel Essono Ondo affirmed.

The discussions highlighted concrete ambitions. In a subregional landscape marked by rapid change, both capitals are eager to revitalize their exchanges. Key priorities include boosting economic cooperation, enhancing bilateral trade, and forging robust partnerships in education, security, and infrastructure.

Shared vision for African cooperation

In response, Guinea’s Minister Morissanda Kouyaté expressed strong support for the ambassador’s mission, ensuring the backing of local authorities. Persis Lionel Essono Ondo reaffirmed his dedication to advancing Gabon’s interests while fostering closer ties between the two nations—a clear signal as diplomatic missions prepare to reopen.

This appointment reflects a deliberate strategy to consolidate inter-African diplomatic pathways. At a time when the continent faces numerous challenges, Gabon and Guinea are championing pragmatic co-development, guided by a spirit of enhanced cooperation and shared prosperity.
