The Gabonese government has launched a nationwide effort to crack down on child labor rings in the capital city of Libreville.
The initiative, which brings together law enforcement agencies, social services, and other stakeholders, aims to identify and prosecute those exploiting children for economic gain. According to Gladys Victoire Maganga, director of social affairs and youth protection, the exploitation of child labor is a serious crime that must be addressed with zero tolerance.
The operation has already yielded promising results, with authorities identifying several networks of traffickers who have been using children as forced labor or domestic workers. The victims, many of whom are from neighboring countries, were lured into these situations by false promises of work or education.
As the government continues to crack down on child labor, it is also working to provide support and protection to those who have been affected. This includes access to education, healthcare, and other social services.
