Gabon is actively engaged in negotiations and technical preparations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to establish a new framework for economic cooperation. The nation continues to foster its long-standing partnership with the global financial institution. Officials confirm that the discussions between the Gabonese government and the IMF are ongoing, characterized by a productive and responsible atmosphere.
Furthermore, since the conclusion of the spring meetings in April, Gabonese representatives and IMF teams have maintained regular exchanges via videoconference. These discussions adhere to a mutually agreed timetable, primarily focusing on technical work. On July 2, 2026, in Washington, D.C., at the IMF headquarters, Thierry Minko, Gabon’s Minister of Economy, Finance, Debt and Participations, who also oversees the fight against the high cost of living, held a cordial meeting with the IMF’s Africa Director and their associates, including Aliona Cebotari, the mission chief for Gabon.
This sustained dialogue follows a jointly defined, cohesive strategy. Its core components include the 2026 corrective finance law, the macroeconomic and budgetary framework for 2027-2029, the gradual integration of economic, financial, and budgetary data, and the preparation of future engagement stages with the Fund.
