Libreville’s mayor Eugène Mba outlines urban transformation plans to Gabon’s president

Gabon’s President, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, met with Libreville’s Mayor, Eugène Mba, yesterday at the Palais Rénovation. This session marked their second interaction following an earlier meeting on April 28, focusing on assessing local governance progress, reviewing municipal performance targets, and strengthening state-local collaboration.

The Mayor presented a comprehensive update on his assigned priorities since assuming office on April 24, detailing the city’s new administrative structure at the Hôtel de Ville. Key discussion points included long-term urban renewal initiatives: reorganizing urban space, developing modern parking facilities, expanding green and botanical areas, addressing unauthorized public land occupation, and upgrading neighborhood infrastructure. Municipal digital transformation also featured prominently in the talks.

The Head of State emphasized the urgent need to enhance urban sanitation, underscoring cleanliness as a top priority. He stressed that improving household waste collection systems must be a central focus moving forward.

Reaffirming his commitment to a modern, attractive Gabon, the President highlighted Libreville’s role as the nation’s showcase. He called for the capital to meet international standards in urban planning, local governance, and public service quality. Encouraging Mayor Mba to uphold rigor, innovation, and efficiency, he urged swift and effective implementation of ongoing projects.
