New leadership at Senegal’s autonomous port of Dakar

Dakar, July 15, 2026 – A sweeping leadership change has reshaped one of West Africa’s most vital maritime hubs. In a decisive presidential decree issued today, Doune Pathé Mbengue, an experienced civil administrator, has been appointed as the new Director-General of the Port Autonome de Dakar (PAD). This strategic move places him at the helm of Senegal’s premier commercial gateway, succeeding Waly Diouf Bodiang, whose tenure has concluded.

As the newly appointed leader of the PAD, Mbengue assumes responsibility for overseeing the port’s daily operations, long-term infrastructure projects, and its role in bolstering regional trade connectivity. His appointment reflects a commitment to strengthening Senegal’s position as a key player in West African maritime logistics and economic integration.

Under the new leadership, the PAD is expected to enhance operational efficiency, modernize port facilities, and deepen partnerships with private sector stakeholders. The transition marks a pivotal moment for the port’s continued growth and its contribution to Senegal’s economic development.
