Nice faces empty stadium sanctions after Allianz Riviera chaos

The disciplinary committee has handed down two full stadium closures and one suspended match for Nice’s Allianz Riviera following the disturbances during last Sunday’s match against Metz. The OGC Nice will contest this decision as they prepare for their Ligue 1 relegation playoff return leg against Saint-Étienne on May 29th, which may now take place behind closed doors.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel’s disciplinary body ruled that Nice’s Allianz Riviera stadium must host two matches without spectators and face a suspended match following the «pyrotechnic devices, pitch invasion and pitch damage after the final whistle» that marred the final Ligue 1 matchday fixture against Metz.

This sanction means Nice will face Saint-Étienne at the Allianz Riviera for their Ligue 1 relegation playoff return leg on May 29th, and potentially their first Ligue 1 home match of next season, without fans present. The club has already filed an appeal to overturn this decision, hoping to welcome supporters for the home leg. At the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium for the first leg on May 26th, Nice will already be without suspended striker Elye Wahi.

Paris Saint-Germain also received sanctions, with the closure of the Auteuil stand at Parc des Princes for «pyrotechnic use and visual expressions observed». This penalty will be enforced during their first Ligue 1 home match of the 2026-2027 season.

Additional sanctions
One-match suspension after fifth booking or revocation of suspended ban:
Benjamin Andrey (Lille), Mahdi Camara (Stade Rennais FC), Christian Mawissa (AS Monaco), Elye Wahi (OGC Nice)

FC Nantes’ case, involving pitch invasion during their early-season match against Toulouse, will be reviewed separately at a later date.
