Olympique Lyonnais will not receive special treatment as they embark on their European campaign. Not yet fully secured a spot in the prestigious Champions League group stage, OL must first navigate a challenging third preliminary round in early August, followed by potential play-off matches approximately two weeks later.
These crucial play-off fixtures are set to clash just days before the commencement of the Ligue 1 championship, where Paulo Fonseca’s squad is scheduled to face Toulouse. The Lyon management formally approached the LFP (Ligue de Football Professionnel) via written correspondence, requesting a deferral of their opening Ligue 1 fixture. The club emphasized “the paramount interest of French football” in support of their appeal.

However, the LFP delivered a negative response, firmly declining to reschedule any Ligue 1 matches at the very start of the season. Consequently, Olympique Lyonnais will be compelled to contend with the demanding schedule, should they successfully advance to the Champions League play-offs.
