Ousmane sonko advocates for african parliamentary union operational reform

During the 85th session of the African Parliamentary Union (UPA) Executive Committee, National Assembly President Ousmane Sonko held an important meeting on Thursday, June 4, with Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge, who chairs the continental parliamentary body’s Executive Committee.

Our discussions focused on the UPA’s core missions, its organizational structure, and strategies for its future strengthening, particularly as the African continent navigates an era of escalating challenges.

During the gathering, Ousmane Sonko presented several proposals aimed at elevating the effectiveness of the African Parliamentary Union’s efforts. He specifically called for a comprehensive reform of its operational framework to amplify its influence on the continent’s pivotal political and institutional directions.

The National Assembly President also highlighted the critical need for enhanced synergy between the UPA’s resolutions and recommendations and those emanating from the African Union. He asserted that such alignment would foster greater coherence across the actions undertaken by African institutions.
