Ousmane sonko galvanizes pastef in mbacké, targets million members

Mbacké played host this Saturday to Ousmane Sonko, the esteemed leader of the « Patriotes » and president of Pastef. His visit marked the official launch of the party’s membership card sales campaign, a pivotal initiative as Pastef gears up for upcoming electoral challenges, with the 2029 presidential election already a clear objective. Addressing a fervent assembly of activists, Sonko’s initial focus was on fostering cohesion.

Observing evident friction among certain local officials, including Doctor Fall Mbaye, Deputy Ahmadou Lö, and Moustapha Diop – individuals he specifically named – Ousmane Sonko emphatically urged them to reconcile. « I have advocated for this everywhere I have been. Everyone must join hands. This is not the time for disputes. Unity must prevail, » he declared, underscoring that solidarity is a non-negotiable strategic imperative for the movement’s success. Following this crucial clarification, he lauded the remarkable enthusiasm that the membership drive had generated in Mbacké since its initial announcement.

« Today, well before 4 PM, all 13,000 cards dispatched here were purchased. We had to place a new order with Dakar, » Ousmane Sonko proudly reported. He further highlighted that the sheer volume of traffic on the online adhesion platform had caused technical overloads, a clear indicator of the widespread support for the movement.

Buoyed by this resounding success, the Pastef leader articulated an ambitious target: to enroll one million members solely within the Mbacké department by October, the campaign’s closing date. « I am confident that the department of Mbacké alone can generate this million members, » he proclaimed to thunderous applause.

Beyond the imperative of mobilization, Ousmane Sonko also sought to refine his troops’ narrative and issue a stern caution to political rivals. He implored his activists to prioritize composure. « Do not engage in conflict with anyone. Do not respond to any provocation. If peace endures in Senegal, Pastef will sweep every election in this nation. No election can elude us, » he affirmed. He further advised militants to concentrate on their dedicated efforts and disregard « those who hold no genuine responsibility, who command no popular backing, and who lack a legitimate political party. »
