Ousmane Sonko issues new censure motion warning to prime minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô

Speaking at a rally in Touba this Sunday, Ousmane Sonko, the President of the National Assembly, delivered a stark warning to Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô, once again raising the specter of a vote of no confidence against his administration. The leader of Pastef, whose party commands a significant majority in the National Assembly, underscored that this constitutional mechanism remains a viable option should circumstances necessitate its use.

It is worth recalling that the President of the National Assembly has previously cautioned on multiple occasions that no “blank check” would be extended to the executive branch, while simultaneously asserting his intention to avoid leveraging this prerogative to orchestrate “institutional chaos.” However, in Touba, the Assembly President exhibited heightened resolve, a stance adopted amidst a backdrop of existing tensions, notably stemming from the invalidation of the constitutional revision and his criticisms directed at President Diomaye Faye.
