Preparations for the Pastef party’s upcoming congress are in full swing, with the official launch of candidate registration for the party leadership.

The High Authority for Party Regulation (HARP) has announced that candidacy dossiers can be submitted from midnight on May 15, 2026, until noon on May 20, 2026. The body also confirmed that candidacy declaration forms will be made available to aspirants seeking to lead the party.

This process marks a critical step in organizing the Pastef congress, seen as a pivotal moment for strengthening and consolidating the ruling party.

While the internal election is unlikely to hold surprises, Ousmane Sonko, the central figure and historical leader of the movement, is widely expected to be re-elected as party chairman following the congress.

The timing of this milestone coincides with Pastef’s efforts to enhance its internal structure after securing power and to lay the groundwork for its future political agenda.
