In a message released this Monday, May 21, 2026, the outgoing President of the Republic of Benin expressed his profound gratitude to the Beninese people. He specifically thanked them for “the demanding path we have courageously undertaken together over the past decade, for the significant hurdles overcome, the transformative reforms implemented, and the ambitious projects launched, all aimed at strengthening our state and dedicating public service to its socio-economic advancement.”

My dear compatriots,

This coming Sunday, May 24, 2026, the President-elect, Mr. Romuald Wadagni, is set to be sworn into office, formally commencing his duties. He will then assume the delicate yet exhilarating mission of guiding our country towards greater progress and collective and individual well-being.

In this regard, I wish to reiterate my earnest wishes for his immense success in the endeavors he will undertake over the next seven years.

As I prepare to relinquish my responsibilities, I want to express my deepest thanks and profound pride in each of you for the challenging journey we have courageously undertaken together over the past decade. This includes the significant hurdles overcome, the transformative reforms implemented, and the ambitious projects launched, all aimed at strengthening our state and dedicating public service to its socio-economic advancement.

Undoubtedly, our path has not always been smooth; it was often fraught with obstacles. Yet, these very challenges imbued our journey with a unique character and served to galvanize our collective spirit.

Looking back, we can observe, along with the rest of the world, which has consistently expressed its admiration, that we have made considerable progress. Our collective efforts and sacrifices are steadily bearing fruit. This achievement belongs to all Beninese, from urban centers to rural communities, and even those in the diaspora, young and old alike.

Serving as the leader of this remarkable national journey and dedicating myself to our country has been an extraordinary honor. My gratitude towards Benin and each one of you is boundless.

I must also acknowledge, with you as my witnesses, the invaluable and effective role played by a remarkable woman who supported me with affection and patience, and whose guidance was profoundly instrumental. I refer to Madame Claudine Gbénagnon Kpoviessi épouse TALON, to whom I extend my heartfelt thanks.

Furthermore, I extend my appreciation to all those who surrounded me with their love, friendship, and unwavering support, enabling me to consistently give my utmost.

As I hand over the reins to President Romuald Wadagni, I wish to share my firm conviction that under his leadership, our nation will continue to make significant strides towards realizing its destiny as a truly great Nation.

To achieve this, I am confident that, empowered by our past accomplishments and driven by an unwavering commitment to push further, we will collectively rally around him and work alongside him for the supreme interest of Benin. Together, we will secure new frontiers of progress, fostering well-being, pride, and prosperity for everyone.
