Romuald wadagni unveils Bénin’s new cabinet, blending continuity and fresh vision

Shortly after his official investiture as Bénin’s leader, Romuald Wadagni revealed the composition of his inaugural government. This team comprises 22 ministers and three minister delegates, notably characterized by the retention of several key figures from the previous administration alongside the introduction of strategic new talents.

This cabinet clearly indicates the new head of state’s commitment to advancing the significant reforms initiated during the tenure of Patrice Talon, all while imprinting his distinct political agenda, particularly in the realms of digital transformation, innovation, and public sector governance.

Among the prominent appointments, Yvon Détchénou assumes the crucial Justice and Legislation portfolio, while Aristide Médenou takes command of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. For National Defense, Gildas Agonkan has been named minister, and Djibril Mama Cissé Moussa is entrusted with the Interior and Public Security responsibilities.

Bénin’s diplomatic efforts will now be steered by Corinne Amori Brunet, appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Olushegun Adjadi Bakari retains his vital role within the Ministry of Tourism, Foreign Trade, and Industry, a portfolio central to the nation’s economic appeal.

The newly formed executive also allocates significant attention to social sectors. Benjamin Hounkpatin maintains his position at the Ministry of Health, Véronique Tognifodé is placed in charge of Family and Social Action, and Sedami Medegan Fagla receives the appointment for Higher Education and Scientific Research.

A notable innovation within this governmental team is the establishment of a dedicated portfolio for Digital Transformation and Innovation, assigned to Mahouna Aklogan. This strategic move underscores the new authorities’ ambition to accelerate technological modernization and Bénin’s digital transition.

In the critical areas of infrastructure and quality of life, Georges Alley has been appointed Minister of Transport and Living Environment, while Edouard Dahomey assumes leadership of the Ministry of Energy, Water, and Mines.

The government further includes three minister delegates, alongside the appointment of Wilson Gakpéto to the pivotal role of Secretary-General of the Government.

Through this initial cabinet, President Romuald Wadagni signals a clear direction that harmonizes institutional stability and administrative continuity with fresh development priorities, all against a backdrop of high expectations across economic, social, and technological fronts.
