Just seven days after Ousmane Sonko was removed from the Prime Minister’s office and a new head of government took charge in Senegal, tensions between him and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye have intensified. Initial negotiations had begun to explore potential roles for party leaders from Pastef-Les Patriotes in the new administration, but those talks have now collapsed. In an official statement released on June 1 by the party’s Executive Committee (COMEX) and shared by Sonko on his Facebook page, Pastef announced it would not be fielding any representatives in the upcoming government.
