Tiassalé mayor unveils free weekend public transport initiative

Antoine Assalé Tiémoko, the mayor of Tiassalé, a vibrant urban center situated approximately 120 kilometers from Abidjan, has declared that local public transportation will become free on weekends within the municipality.

This innovative program is slated for implementation with a pilot phase commencing towards the close of 2026.

“This measure aligns with our strategy to redistribute the commune’s financial assets. Our own municipal funds, derived from local taxes, have seen a substantial increase from 24 million FCFA in 2019 to 91 million in 2025, with projections reaching 100 million by 2026,” Mayor Assalé explained in a statement posted on his official online platform.

The unprecedented initiative was previously announced by the mayor on Friday, May 22, 2026, during the 11th annual accountability day held at Tiassalé’s marriage hall.

Assalé Tiémoko, a notable figure in both politics and journalism, currently serves as the mayor of Tiassalé commune and leads the political movement known as “Aujourd’hui et demain, la Côte d’Ivoire (ADCI).”
