Togo energy sector shake-up: ceet director general dismissed amid power sector challenges

The leadership at Togo’s state-run power utility, the Compagnie Énergie Électrique du Togo (CEET), has undergone a significant change. Débo-K’mba Barandao, the outgoing Director General, has been relieved of his duties following multiple reports confirming the decision.

At present, no official statement has been issued regarding the reasons behind this abrupt leadership shift. However, the move comes at a time when the CEET continues to grapple with persistent challenges in electricity distribution and service quality across the country’s power grid.

Appointed in March 2022, Débo-K’mba Barandao was tasked with spearheading critical reforms within the public enterprise, focusing on both organizational restructuring and operational efficiency. His tenure was characterized by several ambitious projects aimed at revitalizing the company’s structure and performance.

The CEET remains a pivotal player in Togo’s energy sector, yet it has long contended with systemic issues such as frequent power outages and the urgent need for infrastructure upgrades. These ongoing struggles have underscored the necessity for strong leadership and strategic direction.

As of now, no successor has been announced. Authorities have indicated that a new appointment is expected in the coming days to ensure seamless continuity in the company’s operations and services.
