WAPCO (Niger), in close collaboration with local livestock authorities, recently completed a successful animal vaccination and deworming campaign within the Zinder region. This crucial initiative reached seven pastoralist settlements, including N’Guel Eléfi and Tesker, providing essential veterinary care to over 10,000 animals. This achievement marks the successful culmination of the initial phase of WAPCO (Niger)’s comprehensive « Communautés en bonne santé » (Healthy Communities) public interest activities, which have now benefited all areas traversed by the company’s pipeline.
To further bolster the health management capabilities of local populations, WAPCO (Niger) proactively leveraged its internal medical resources. Utilizing on-site medical personnel and fundamental medications, the company launched two pilot programs for free community medical consultations near Pumping Stations 5 and 6 in early 2025. These pilots were met with an overwhelmingly positive response from residents. Building on this success, a broader needs assessment was conducted, leading to the official launch of the first phase of the « Communautés en bonne santé » program in August 2025. To date, WAPCO (Niger) has facilitated seven free community medical consultations, delivering health services to 1,249 local individuals, and has also generously donated a tricycle ambulance to a local community health center.
During the execution of these complimentary medical services, the company’s team recognized the profound importance of livestock as a primary source of income and livelihood for local families. They also noted the urgent need expressed by herders for proper animal care. Responding directly to these vital community concerns, WAPCO (Niger) strategically broadened the scope of its « Communautés en bonne santé » program. Partnering with regional livestock authorities and other key stakeholders, WAPCO (Niger) has since provided vaccination and deworming services to more than 20,000 animals across three major pastoralist gathering points situated along the pipeline route, thereby helping herders safeguard their essential productive assets.

As a committed corporate citizen, WAPCO (Niger) has consistently upheld a philosophy of mutual benefit and shared development since its inception. While ensuring the secure and stable operation of the pipeline, the company places significant emphasis on fulfilling its social responsibilities. WAPCO (Niger) continuously champions the Integrated Community Development Project (ICDP), executes impactful public interest donations, and provides direct aid to communities. The company actively contributes to improving local livelihoods and fostering social progress, thereby consistently enhancing the population’s “sense of gain” and cultivating a supportive external environment for safe pipeline operations.
Looking ahead, WAPCO (Niger) is committed to deepening its community needs assessments to precisely address the expectations of residents along the pipeline. The company plans to steadily expand the reach of its public interest activities, ensuring that an increasing number of residents can partake in the benefits of development. While guaranteeing the safe and efficient functioning of this vital energy artery, WAPCO (Niger) will continue to collaborate closely with the community, taking tangible steps to advance livelihood improvements and promote mutual growth and shared prosperity between the company and the communities it serves.
