Wendie renard reflects on lyon’s champions league final loss

Wendie Renard (Olympique Lyonnais): «the scoreline doesn’t reflect the game’s reality»

Following Olympique Lyonnais’ 4-0 defeat to Barcelona in the Women’s Champions League final, captain Wendie Renard shared her unfiltered perspective on the outcome.

Renard (OL captain, post-final): «The final score is harsh, but in my view, it doesn’t mirror how the game unfolded. Barcelona capitalized on key opportunities, and when you’re in a final, the level is razor-sharp. They executed ruthlessly in front of goal—we didn’t. That’s the difference. After the third and fourth goals, it became clear we were chasing the game. We pushed forward, but they countered effectively. It’s football. You learn, you adapt, and you keep working.»

«Careers aren’t linear, and neither are seasons. Congratulations to Barcelona—they deserved this. For our team, this is a learning experience. There’s plenty to address, but reaching a final is an opportunity we can’t afford to waste. That’s the reality of football. You take the hits, you reflect, and you come back stronger.»
