Algeria and Chad forge infrastructure deal to boost saharan connectivity

Algeria and Chad have inked a landmark agreement in N’Djamena to fast-track infrastructure cooperation, focusing on public works and foundational development projects.

This pact aligns with efforts to deepen bilateral ties and expedite the implementation of previously signed accords, as outlined in an official statement from the Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure. The collaboration aims to elevate cross-border connectivity and economic integration between the two nations.

Trans-Saharan highway study launch: a milestone for regional transport

The agreement was formalized by Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, and Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Amir Idriss Kourda, during a high-level coordination meeting in N’Djamena. The session, held on the second day of an Algerian delegation’s working visit to Chad, included key figures such as the Director-General of Algeria’s Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development, the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, and representatives from Cosider and the National Public Works Company (SNTP).

On the Chadian side, the delegation comprised the Minister Delegate for Infrastructure and senior officials. The Chadian minister highlighted the «rapid momentum» in executing bilateral agreements, citing tangible progress since their April 22 signing in Algiers. Notable advancements include reciprocal technical assessments and the initiation of feasibility studies for the Trans-Saharan highway project traversing Chadian territory.
