Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb of Algeria arrived in Niamey on Wednesday for a high-level meeting with Niger’s President, General Abdourahamane Tiani.
During the visit, Ghrieb conveyed the warm regards of Algeria’s President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, along with a personal pledge to deepen the bonds of solidarity and strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring nations.
Fast-tracking a landmark energy project
The discussions centered on assessing the progress of existing cooperation agreements and reviewing the outcomes of President Tiani’s official visit to Algeria in February. The leaders also evaluated the results of the second session of the Algeria-Niger Joint High Commission held in Niamey last March. A key highlight of the meeting was the accelerated implementation of a new power plant project, a testament to the strong commitment from both sides to accelerate development initiatives.
President Tiani expressed his deep appreciation for President Tebboune’s unwavering support, acknowledging that the rapid realization of the power plant project reflects the depth of bilateral relations and the shared vision of both leaders to build a robust, mutually beneficial partnership that aligns with the development aspirations of their peoples.
A shining example of South-South cooperation
President Tiani commended the remarkable progress in bilateral projects, describing the Algeria-Niger partnership as a model for South-South collaboration. He reaffirmed his resolve, alongside President Tebboune, to elevate the relationship to new heights, fostering even greater integration and solidarity.
Prime Minister Ghrieb praised the swift advancement of cooperation initiatives, emphasizing that the two countries have entered a new phase of strengthened political alignment and tangible on-the-ground progress. This milestone was made possible through the consistent guidance and rigorous follow-up from both leaderships, ensuring the effective execution of the jointly established roadmap.

Ghrieb reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across critical sectors, including energy, hydrocarbons, infrastructure, healthcare, education, digital innovation, and transportation. He underscored the importance of accelerating the implementation of strategic projects to bolster economic growth and regional integration, while also addressing shared challenges through sustained bilateral coordination and collaboration.
The talks also covered trade and economic cooperation programs, with both sides stressing the need to expedite project timelines to support sustainable development and reinforce regional stability. The leaders emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and joint action in tackling regional security threats, reaffirming their dedication to fostering peace and stability in the Sahel.
