The speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Sahibé Gafarova, held talks with Morocco’s Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohamed Ghayate, in Baku. Ghayate is in Azerbaijan to attend the 20th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation member states.
Both sides welcomed the current level of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Morocco, noting that ties built on mutual respect are flourishing, especially in the political sphere. They highlighted successful cooperation within international organisations and the mutual support and solidarity shown on various platforms.
The crucial role of interparliamentary cooperation in deepening bilateral relations was emphasised. Gafarova expressed satisfaction with her official visit to Morocco and her meetings with Moroccan counterparts at international events, stating that such contacts help strengthen ties. Active friendship groups within both legislatures act as mediators, and a memorandum of understanding signed this year between the two parliaments opens promising avenues for further deepening relations.
The parties welcomed their parliaments’ collaboration within international parliamentary bodies, particularly the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement. They noted that Morocco is strongly represented at Network conferences and attaches great importance to the organisation’s work.
