Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, arrived in Libreville on Friday for an official working and friendship visit aimed at deepening bilateral relations between Gabon and the DRC.
At the airport, he was greeted by a large crowd of Gabonese citizens, creating a warm and enthusiastic welcome. The Congolese leader then proceeded to the newly renovated Léon Mba Memorial, where he laid a wreath in tribute to Gabon’s first president and independence pioneer. The ceremony included a moment of silence and the national anthem paying respects to fallen leaders.
The visit to the memorial reflects a broader effort to honor historical figures who shaped Africa’s path to freedom. Following the tribute, President Tshisekedi signed the guestbook, marking another milestone in the two nations’ shared history.
The following day, he met with Gabon’s President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema at the presidential palace for high-level discussions. While no specific agenda was released, the encounter underscores the ongoing diplomatic engagement between Libreville and Kinshasa.
Gabon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, both key members of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), maintain long-standing diplomatic ties, often reinforced through high-level exchanges between their capitals.
