Burkina Faso prime minister meets interafrican federation of insurance brokers ahead of Ouagadougou assembly

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo of Burkina Faso welcomed a delegation from the Interafrican Federation of Insurance Brokers (FIAC) on June 9, 2026. Leading the delegation was interim President Vakaramoko Samaké, who presented the key issues ahead of the FIAC’s 16th Annual General Assembly, scheduled for June 10–13 in Ouagadougou.

The event, themed “The role of insurance brokers in expanding access and boosting penetration rates”, aims to position brokers as central players in financial inclusion.

Nearly 200 insurance brokers from the 14 member countries of the Inter-African Conference on Insurance Markets (CIMA), along with delegates from Guinea and Ghana, will attend the assembly. Following the meeting, Mr. Samaké praised the Prime Minister’s commitment to sponsoring the event, calling it a strong show of support for the sector.

«We highlighted how our profession drives economic growth in our countries and creates jobs,» Mr. Samaké noted. «This assembly signals a new era of qualitative change, with financial inclusion as the foundation of our mission to better serve our communities.»

The Prime Minister commended Ouagadougou’s selection as the host city, calling it «a mark of solidarity with our nation.» He added, «Though our path has faced unfair criticism and negative stereotypes, we remain steadfast. Burkina Faso is progressing across all fronts, as reflected in our macroeconomic indicators.»

The Prime Minister also underscored the significance of the assembly’s theme, aligning it with the government’s priorities. «Insurance is now vital in every sector,» he stated. «In rural areas, climate insurance is gaining traction—proof that risks are evolving and communities need better protection.»

Reaffirming the government’s dedication to making insurance broking a tool for resilience, he concluded, «Rest assured of our readiness to collaborate and integrate your recommendations. I urge you to unite and adapt to today’s challenges.»
