What’s fueling Chad’s political unrest and how to ease tensions
The detention of Succès Masra, opposition leader, has been extended after the Supreme Court upheld his appeal rejection this week.
First arrested in May 2025, Masra was sentenced to two decades in prison on charges of spreading “hateful and xenophobic messages” and “complicity in murder.” His trial was widely criticized by human rights advocates who labeled it politically motivated.
Earlier this month, N’Djamena’s criminal court handed down eight-year prison terms to eight leaders of the former political consultation group (GCAP) — two years less than the prosecution’s requested decade-long sentences.
Guests on Éric Topona’s show assessed the latest developments in Chad’s political landscape:
- Maître Mamadou Ismaïla Konaté, a Malian lawyer and former Justice Minister
- Abdel-Nasser Garboa, spokesperson for the ruling Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS)
