Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko prematurely departed from a patriotic walking event held this Sunday, May 17, 2026. Dakar Mayor Abass Fall organized the rally, which carried the theme “the march towards 2029.”
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the head of government found it impossible to complete the walk alongside other attendees, attributing his early exit to considerable public disorder observed at the site.
This situation drew sharp criticism from Dakar Mayor Abass Fall, who openly condemned the lack of discipline among some participants.
“We face a genuine challenge,” the Mayor stated emphatically. “We cannot invite a high authority here only for people to display such indiscipline. This is unacceptable. We gathered for a walk, so why can participants not maintain order? He has now returned home because of this.”
When a journalist questioned him about the visible affection supporters showed for Ousmane Sonko, Abass Fall responded, “Affection must be accompanied by intelligence. One needs to be intelligent. This truly presents a significant issue!”
