Kinshasa witnessed a significant event on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, as the Ministry of Mines hosted the official awards ceremony for the ‘BUANYA’ excellence competition at the Pullman Grand Hôtel. This initiative, spearheaded by Minister of Mines Louis Watum Kabamba, sought to engage graduates from the National School of Administration (ENA) in addressing critical strategic aspects of the Congolese mining sector.
Distinguished guests, including the Secretary General for Mines, heads of supervisory bodies, jury members, and participating ENA graduates, gathered for the event. The highlight of the ceremony was the announcement of results and the presentation of awards to the winning teams.
Over several weeks, forty-eight ENA graduates, organized into six distinct teams, undertook extensive research and in-depth analysis. Their focus encompassed vital themes within the mining industry, such as robust mining governance, ensuring transparency and resource traceability, combating illicit activities, regulating artisanal mining, advancing geological exploration, fostering equitable distribution of sector revenues, and initiating new mining ventures.
Minister Watum underscored the Democratic Republic of Congo’s pivotal role in the global energy transition. He reiterated that this strategic standing necessitates transforming the nation’s vast mineral wealth into tangible engines for development, creating employment opportunities, modern infrastructure, and high-quality social services.
The Minister further urged the award recipients to continue serving as champions of excellence, integrity, and transformative change. He emphasized that the future of mining governance must be firmly rooted in meritocracy, continuous innovation, unwavering transparency, and a commitment to achieving concrete results.
This forward-thinking initiative aligns perfectly with the vision of President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, executed under the coordination of Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka. Their administration prioritizes human capital development and sound governance as central tenets of public policy.
The convivial ceremony concluded with a group photograph, symbolizing the successful culmination of an enriching experience. This event paves the way for greater involvement of young administrative professionals in shaping and transforming the Democratic Republic of Congo’s crucial mining sector.
