French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu landed in Rabat Wednesday evening, marking the start of a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between France and Morocco. The timing comes as both nations seek to deepen ties amid a period of renewed diplomatic engagement following years of fluctuating relations.
Upon arrival, Lecornu was greeted by Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch. The French delegation includes twelve ministers, underscoring the significance of this mission. The visit follows a clear intent from both Paris and Rabat to revitalize cooperation across multiple sectors.
During the visit, Sébastien Lecornu and Aziz Akhannouch will hold a bilateral meeting before jointly chairing the 15th High-Level Franco-Moroccan Meeting. This long-standing forum serves as a key platform for political and economic dialogue between the two countries, with no session held since 2019.
Key discussion topics will include boosting economic exchanges, fostering mutual investments, enhancing security and defense cooperation, and addressing critical areas such as energy, infrastructure development, and ecological transition.
French and Moroccan authorities have announced that around fifteen agreements are expected to be signed during this high-level meeting.
These agreements will cover a wide range of areas, including civil aviation, water management, strategic infrastructure, electricity interconnection, security cooperation, and several cultural initiatives.
In the cultural sphere, both parties are set to finalize a strategic partnership between the Arab World Institute in Paris and Morocco’s Ministry of Culture. The goal is to amplify artistic, heritage, and academic exchanges between the two nations.
